Governance & Policy
Carol Musyoka
CMCL Africa
On Episode 63 of The AfriCAN Do! Podcast, host Leonard Mudachi sits down with Carol Musyoka, Founder and CEO of Carol Musyoka Consulting Limited (CMCL Africa), to unpack the answer most African entrepreneurs are never told: it starts in the boardroom.
Carol is a Kenyan lawyer, former banker (Citibank, Barclays Bank of Kenya, K-Rep Bank), and one of Africa's most respected voices on corporate governance and board effectiveness. She is the former Chairperson of the Kenya Deposit Insurance Corporation (KDIC), former Independent Non-Executive Director on the boards of East African Breweries Limited (EABL) and BAT Kenya, a 2010 Eisenhower Fellow, and an adjunct faculty member at Strathmore Business School where she leads Board Governance Programmes across Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania.
Through CMCL Africa, Carol is doing the unglamorous, foundational work that decides whether an African business becomes a generational institution or another statistic: board performance evaluations, bespoke director training, founder transition support (her "Founderitis" programme), leadership simulations, and the EtiQa board evaluation tool. Her thesis is simple and urgent. Africa will not build the next Safaricom, the next EABL or the next pan-African champion without intentional, ethical, courageous boards.
